Neuromodulators

One of the two types of injectable treatments offered at Clayton Plastic surgery is Neuromodulators. Neuromodulators, sometimes referred to as Neurotoxins, work to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles of the upper face. Forehead lines, the number “11” lines between the eyebrows, and crows feet can be effectively treated with Neuromodulators.

Neurotoxins work to temporarily reduce contraction in the muscles responsible for dynamic lines. This, in turn, prevents the lines from appearing and becoming deeper with time.

When you are joyous, angry, or even confused, the muscles in your face work to create facial expressions. As you continuously frown, smile, and furrow your brows, your skin is pulled and creases under the pressure created by your facial muscles. The repeated creasing can cause unwanted lines and wrinkles to appear on the surface of your skin.

Botox

Botox is a household name when it comes to the available Neuromodulators. Botox is FDA-approved to treat lines in the upper face. These include horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, and lines around the eyes, called crow’s feet. The results of Botox may last up to 4 months.

Dysport

Dysport is a Neuromodulator that is FDA-approved to treat the vertical lines between the eyebrows. Dysport treatment may last up to 5 months.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are long-lasting injectable substances that can also address the lines and wrinkles of the upper face. However, Fillers can go further! Dermal Fillers may be used to plump deflated or depressed areas of the face and hands. These may include atrophic scars, cheeks, lips, temples, jawline, and wrinkles in the skin.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers offered at Clayton Plastic Surgery include JUVÉDERM and Restylane. They are both hyaluronic acid-based fillers that add volume to the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the human body. It is responsible for keeping the skin soft and supple. Hyaluronic acid binds to water allowing your eyes, skin, and connective tissues to retain moisture. As we age, hyaluronic acid production is reduced, making our skin dryer and more prone to wrinkling.

JUVÉDERM

JUVÉDERM is a filler that is FDA-approved to treat the lips, and cheeks, and lines on the face. It comes in a variety of formulas to meet your specific aesthetic goals. JUVÉDERM treatment can last from 1 to 2 years depending on the formulation used.

Restylane

Also a hyaluronic acid-based Dermal Filler, Restylane is approved to fill the lines and wrinkles, the cheeks, lips, chin, jaw, bridge of the nose and other hollowed areas of the face. Specific Restylane formulations may last up to 24 months, making it a long-lasting option to meet your needs.

Preparation

To prepare for Injectable treatment, Dr. Clayton may advise you to reduce or cease use of certain medications, such as ibuprofen and aspirin, leading up to your treatment day. These medications may increase bruising at the injection sites. Dr. Clayton will discuss any additional specific pre-procedure instructions with you during your consultation.

Procedure

When you come in to Clayton Plastic Surgery for your Neuromodulator or Dermal Filler treatment, Dr. Clayton may apply a topical anesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout the process. Once your treatment site is appropriately numbed, he will cleanse the treatment area and begin injecting the Filler or Neuromodulator of choice with a fine needle. Dr. Clayton will inject the substance just under your skin in the appropriate areas. Immediately after injecting Dermal Filler, Dr. Clayton may gently rub or squeeze the area to sculpt the Restylane or JUVÉDERM into place.

injectables

The specialized Neuromodulator formula will work to gradually reduce specific muscle movement in the upper face. The Dermal Filler of choice will smooth and volumize your look. Dr. Clayton will cleanse the area once more and you will be on your way to a more youthful-looking you! The entire process can take as little as 10 minutes!

Recovery

Since Injectables are minimally-invasive, you can go about the rest of your day following your appointment! You will need to be mindful about not rubbing, scratching, or otherwise disrupting the treatment site as this can affect the medication settling into the appropriate places under your skin. You may be advised to wear sunblock to keep the skin safe and healthy while outdoors. Also, you may need to avoid heat, excessive sweating, and exercising after receiving Injectables. Dr. Clayton will provide you with detailed recovery instructions during your appointment to keep your results looking flawless!

Results

It may take between 24-72 hours for the results of your Botox or Dysport treatment to become visible. Restylane and JUVÉDERM results are immediately visible. Once your selected Injectable has settled into place and has taken effect, you can expect a more youthful appearance and increased confidence as you embrace the new fountain of youth!

FAQ

IS INJECTABLE TREATMENT PAINFUL?

Prior to administering the appropriate injectable, Dr. Clayton may apply a topical numbing cream to your skin. This is to make the process as comfortable as possible for you. You may feel a slight pinch during the injection, however, many patients are able to tolerate the sensation very well.

ARE INJECTABLES SAFE?

All of the injectable treatments used at Clayton Plastic Surgery are FDA-approved. This means they have been determined safe and effective for their respective intended uses.

CAN I RECEIVE BOTOX AND JUVÉDERM IN THE SAME APPOINTMENT?

It is imperative that you discuss your goals and expectations with Dr. Clayton during your private consultation. Dr. Clayton can determine which solution (or combination of products) will work best for you. If there is nothing barring your candidacy for either treatment, you may be able to undergo Neuromodulator and Dermal Filler treatment at the same time. Dr. Clayton will assess your candidacy and discuss what you can expect from each treatment.
